Food and Wine

What you could eat and drink in this country

In Brazil, the cuisine is tasty and includes a large variety of dishes. The main ingredient is meat; however, there are some fish dishes and desserts, which are often based on exotic fruits of which Brazil is very rich. Brazilian specialties must be strictly accompanied by drinks that have become a symbol of the country.

  • Grilled meat: it is the symbolic dish of tradition and is prepared with great care and with fine cuts of meat. The meat is seasoned only with salt and served with a farofa side dish, made from cassava or corn flour and a vinaigrette of tomatoes, onions and spices.
  • Queijo coalho, a cheese that is passed on the grill and served with meat
  • Grilled pineapple: always accompanies meat and cheese.
  • Moqueca: a fish soup with coriander, tomatoes and chicken, accompanied with white rice, farofa and pirao, a kind of spiced puree, made with cassava flour mixed with the water of the fish.
  • Feijoada: black beans, sausage, various types of pork, including legs and ears. The dish is served together with white rice, farofa, torresmo (pork greaves), couve-manteiga (similar to black cabbage and orange wedges).
  • Pão de queljo: it is a cheese bread that accompanies every meal. It is prepared with tapioca flour, eggs and a type of cheese called Minas.
  • Kibe or Quibe: is a tapered croquette made with bulgur flour and filled with spiced meat.
  • Brigadeiros: sweet truffles made with cocoa powder, butter and milk.
  • Manjar de Coco: a kind of pudding, based on milk, gratinated coconut and coconut milk. It is often combined with a fruit sauce which gives it even more flavor.

Drinks

  • Caiprinha: a cocktail based on cachaca, lime, brown sugar and ice that accompanies any dish.
  • Cachaca: a brandy produced from fermented sugar cane used as a base for many cocktails, but it can also be drunk alone, as a digestive.

When to go

In Brazil there are two seasons: the dry and the rainy one.

As the country extension, it is appropriate to distinguish between areas.

In general, the ideal time to visit any area of Brazil is the southern winter, between June and August. It is generally the coolest, least rainy and sunniest. But if someone likes the heat and is not afraid of a few rainy days, winter is fine too.

Daytime temperatures fluctuate between 26 ° and 28 ° during the year; the lows are more variable, which are higher from October to March (around 17 °), while they become cooler in winter (even 11 ° in June and July).

Put a high protection sunscreen in your suitcase, because, especially in some areas, the perceived temperatures are not very high, but in reality the sun is very strong.

Also bring a raincoat 😉
