The glider is an aircraft without an engine, able to fly thanks to the force of the air on the wings, which is why wings of a glider are always very long.

Some gliders, called motor-gliders, have an engine that is used to take-off or to extend flight, but are able to sustain themselves in flight even without them.

The cockpits can accommodate one or two people and are narrow and completely faired to obtain higher values ​​of “aerodynamic efficiency” and therefore to sail for long distances and high speeds.

Having no propulsion, the glider loses altitude as it proceeds in flight. However, updrafts can occur that allow it to resume or maintain altitude and lengthen the distance travelled.

How does a glider take off?

For departure you can take advantage of the traction of a cable with a winch, or towing, or, as in most cases, towing a powered airplane.

And landing?

Landing procedures are like those of an airplane. You can land anywhere there is enough space (usually a hundred meters, but the distance depends on the type of glider).

All year round and wherever there is a beautiful view to see (and of course space to land 😉) and depending on weather conditions.

To be piloted, the glider requires a specific license (the one for piloting motor aircraft is not valid) called SPL (Soaring Pilot License). But you can fly in tandem, with a professional pilot.

Good physical and mental health is sufficient for a tandem flight. For children and minors, family authorization is required, but there is no legal minimum age, only it is recommended to be over 12 years old. However, the minimum height to wear the mandatory parachute is important.

Comfortable clothing is the only suggestion we give you. The equipment for a tandem flight is simply the parachute and will be provided by the flight school.
